Juliane Marie, bust

Bust of Queen Juliane Marie, made at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory, which was eagerly supported by the Queen. The bust was executed in biscuit ware by Luplau, 1781, possibly after a model by C.F. Stanley.

Queen Juliane Marie of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel was married to Frederik V in 1752, after the death sudden death of his first Queen Louise. Among other she was a key political actor in the power quarrels concerning the insanity of Christian VII. Moreover she was an adamant supporter of the newly established Royal Porcelain Factory, today known simply as Royal Copenhagen.

1775-1800

The time of peace lasted to the end of the century, and neutral Denmark continued to enjoy an economic upturn. At the same time a Danish nationalist tendency made its mark.

Frederik V

Frederik V was the King of Denmark-Norway from 1746; son of Christian VI and Sophie Magdalene of Brandenburg-Kulmbach, and father of Christian (VII).

Juliane Marie

Juliane Marie, 1729-96, Juliane Marie became Queen of Denmark when she married Frederik V in 1752. Her father was Duke Ferdinand Albrecht of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. She was the mother of Prince Frederik, the Heir Presumptive.
