Danish Royal Children and the Wide World

The six children of Christian 9th and Queen Louise were in close contact with their parents throughout their lives. Due to their children’s international distinctions and marriages, the Royal Couple already became known as “Europe’s in-laws” in their own lifetimes.

At present, a selection of the gifts, the children sent home to their parents, is exhibited.

The painting portrait renders Queen Alexandra of United Kingdom (1844-1925), who was married to Edward VII. The queen was very fond of her dogs and was often portrayed and photographed with them. The painting was a Christmas gift to Christian IX from his daughter and her dog Togo.
