Guided tour of the royal studies

This tour takes you inside the royal studies at the Amalienborg Museum at Christian VIII’s Palace where you can get a first-hand impression of the lives of some of the members of the House of Glücksborg and learn more about the individuals behind the Danish monarchy. Through a look at the furnishings and decor of the rooms, we take an in-depth look at the history behind the House of Glücksborg on the Danish throne and the development and role of the Danish monarchy over the past 150 years. The tour includes a visit to Christian IX’s study, where we will talk about the challenges he faced as the first king of this new dynasty.

After the tour, you can explore the beautiful rooms on the piano nobile, including Nicolai Abildgaard’s beautiful decoration and the ‘Golden Tableau’: a centrepiece with gilded bronze replicas of some of the renowned Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen’s best-known pieces.
