Magnus Stenbock, self-portrait

Self-portrait by Magnus Stenbock, Swedish commander. Painted in captivity and sent to Frederik IV, as a plea for clemency. Stenbock painted himself together with a view of the fortress of Tønningen and perhaps more puzzling, a chicken run.
One might speculate that he added himself an the fortress to an existing painting, because the landscape with animals was not an uncommon motif of the time.
