Postage Stamp on the Occasion of the Golden Wedding Anniversary

This mini-sheet marks the Golden Wedding Anniversary of HM Queen Margrethe II and HRH Prince Henrik, which they are celebrating in 2017. In accordance with the Royal Couple’s desire to celebrate the Golden Wedding Anniversary in a private manner, the stamp features a photo of an unofficial kind. The photo was taken by Torben Eskerod in the summer of 2016 at Marselisborg Palace, and the mini-sheet has been designed by Jakob Monefeldt of PostNord Frimærker. The stamps are a Unity of the Realm publication together with Greenland and the Faroe Isles — symbolised by a polar bear, a ram, and a swan, which are printed on the background of the mini-sheet.

The Royal Couple on Danish postage stamps
The Royal Couple have been a motif on Danish postage stamps both together and individually on numerous occasions. There are also seen the previous stamps on which the Royal Couple have been portrayed together. The first time was for their marriage in 1967, and just two years later the young crown couple were portrayed together with Prince Frederik on a charity stamp for the benefit of the Red Cross. The Royal Couple’s Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1992 and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1997 were also marked with stamps. In 2001 a stamp was published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Danish postage stamps, and lastly the Queen’s 70th Birthday in 2010 was the occasion for the publication of a stamp with a motif showing the Royal Family on the balcony at Amalienborg.
